The key to any successful Social Network application is the ability to communicate and share with an open network. Users can communicate under a pseudo - name or decide to allow full access to their profile details.

In Touch was funded by BT to develop visual model of a social network that would appeal to an audience of users from 16 - 25 years old.

The concept is based on a single desktop application that can be customized by the user and act as a communications portal for a variety of information: SMS, Video, Photos, Pier to Pier files sharing of MP3's (all legal of course) and rich media mail services.
The more users, the deeper the network and the richer the experience.

Similar projects are currently being developed by MIcrosoft with 6 Degrees (of separation) and HMV plan to release a legal file sharing app from their web site.

It's all a far cry the Goliath that was Napster.
